William Wordsworth

The English poetry history dates back from the mid 7th century up to the present days. During this period, numerous English poets have created their own masterpieces and have become among the Western culture’s most enduring poems, spreading the language and the poetries across the globe.

One of the Britain’s best loved poets is William Wordsworth which according to him, “poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”

Wordsworth had always been known for his deep love for nature which was motivated by his childhood in rural areas. Wordsworth’s long poem called The Prelude was published on the year he died. It talked about his life from his early childhood along with his many magical experiences.

He was among the foremost English romantic poets and together with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Wordsworth helped in launching the English Literature Romantic Age with their joint publication called The Lyrical Ballads.

However, The Prelude was considered as masterpiece of Wordsworth. It is an autobiographical poem about his early years that some poets revised then expanded several times. The poem was titled and published after his death which was initially known as “To Coleridge” poem.
